Silver Falls Preschool Newsletter December 2025

This month, we are diving into a magical world of fairy tales! This unit aims to spark imagination and help children explore important moral lessons, story structure, and critical thinking skills. We will be comparing and contrasting different versions of these classic stories and engaging in hands-on activities.
Our Focus Stories
The Three Little Pigs: We'll discuss the importance of hard work and planning ahead, as the third pig's sturdy brick house proves to be the wisest choice against the big bad wolf. We will explore STEM/Science by building houses with different materials (straw, sticks, blocks/bricks) and testing their strength against a "wolf's" huff and puff.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears: We will use this story to explore concepts of comparison (big, medium, small; hot, cold, just right) and discuss important lessons about respecting others' property. We will work on sequencing the story and acting it out.
The Gingerbread Man: The focus here will be on sequencing events and discussing safety themes, such as being careful who you trust and never running away from family. We will be baking gingerbread cookies with the high schools culinary arts class and going on a "hunt" for the gingerbread man around the high school. We will be using skills such as following directions, using senses (smell, taste), gross motor skills, and story retelling.
