This month, our little botanists are diving into the world of seeds and sprouts! We are exploring the life cycle of a plant and identifying the four things every plant needs to survive: sun, water, air, and soil. We will discuss farms and farming and incorporate some fun stories and activities related to the topic. We will begin our new phonics curriculum for those who have mastered their letter names and sounds and continue our small group table activities for all other students.

What We’re Doing:

• We will be reading “Little Blue Truck” by Alice Schertle to practice acting out the story and learn lessons in friendship!
• Seed Sorting: Using our fine motor skills to sort different types of seeds by size and color. The "Tiny Seed" Project: Following Eric Carle’s children’s book, "The Tiny Seed", we will plant our own flower seeds to watch grow.
• We will read Jack and the Bean Stock and do a fun project with bean sprouts!
• Dramatic Play: Our classroom dramatic play center will feature a "Farmer’s Market" where children can "sell" produce and flowers, sort items, and fill out order forms.
• Scientific Observations: We will keep Garden Journals to record each stage of growth, from the first sprout to the first leaf along with labeling plant parts and exploring gardening themes
